Podczas walki o mistrzowski pas UFC w dywizji koguciej kobiet, pretendentka Raquel Pennington, chciała zakończyć pojedynek i nie wychodzić do piątej rundy. Narożnik zawodniczki odmówił i chwilę później Amanda Nunes dokończyła dzieła zniszczenia.
Między czwartą i piątą rundą mocno rozbita Raquel Pennington ( 9-6) mówiła do swojego narożnika:
Jestem skończona. Chcę to zakończyć [tę walkę – przyp. red.].
„I’m done!”
Corner: „No, no, no, no.”
Raquel Pennington is finished in the fifth round just moments after telling her corner „I’m done” 🤔 #UFC224 pic.twitter.com/wU52xiCaLE

Świat MMA zareagował natychmiast na nagranie, na którym słychać wymianę zdań między Raquel i jej narożnikiem. Pojawiły się głównie krytyczne głosy:
Penn’s corner when she wanted to quit. #ufc224 pic.twitter.com/qP1uKqaxna

They should have never let her go into the 5th round like that.
— Brian Ortega (@BrianTcity) 13 maja 2018
Perfect example why you shouldn’t let a fighter continue if THEY say they’re done. #UFCRio

Coaches should throw that towel…sad
— Rafael dos Anjos (@RdosAnjosMMA) 13 maja 2018
Really feel bad for her. They’re meant to save her from punishment like that.. not send her out for more.
— Bec Rawlings (@RowdyBec) 13 maja 2018
I’m at a bar, I did NOT get to hear that! That’s insane and shitty. https://t.co/n5hWtGPeOZ

Raquel’s team most definitely knows how tough she is given all she’s been through with her injuries that have kept her out of the octagon.
For them to send her out for the 5th round when she says she’s done is complete negligence on their part and selfish as fuck.

This the kind of shit I was talking about on #JRE this MMA cornering is out of control. She asked for a way out and they make her go get beat

Regular people will never understand the depths of the psyche of a fighter. We’re just a different breed of human that need a different breed of person (handler) to deal with us.
— Will Brooks (@ILLxWillBrooks) 13 maja 2018
@RockyPMMA has enough heart for any 10 regular fighters.
— Ryan Hall (@ryanhall5050) 13 maja 2018
I NEED to know if @RockyPMMA is the type of fighter who constantly needs encouragement. I NEED to know how well her coaches know her and the intricacies of motivating her. I understand those saying this was reckless and dangerous, also get the other side, wait and see.

Nunes on Pennington’s corner:
“I didn’t even know… It’s sad because you could avoid something. She went to the hospital. It might be a bad injury for her to go to the hospital… Unfortunately, tonight (the cornerman) failed.” https://t.co/L2HRgRT3Ac— Chamatkar Sandhu (@SandhuMMA) 13 maja 2018
If Pennington was getting a flat purse (no win/show), does her corner stop the fight earlier? I’d like to think so. No other explanation for that recklessness. The corner works for the fighter. If she wants out, let her out. Live to fight another day.
— Ariel Helwani (@arielhelwani) 13 maja 2018
Raquel Pennington’s corner should be ashamed of themselves. There was no need for Pennington to even get off the stool and start the 5th round to begin with when she clearly told her team she was done. #UFC224
— Chamatkar Sandhu (@SandhuMMA) 13 maja 2018
After that brutal finish, Pennington’s corner is gonna be thinking about their inaction between rounds for a long, long time. She hasn’t fought in 18 months, broken nose. She’d had enough.
— Mike Chiappetta MMA (@MikeChiappetta) 13 maja 2018
Thank goodness for Marc Goddard. He stops the fight because Pennington’s INCOMPETENT corner didn’t. Pennington is crying. Man, FUCK HER CORNER. #UFC224
